The Sombrero golf course was designed and built in the mid-fifties by Mark Mahannah, a well known golf course architect of his time who built well over 100 courses, mainly in South Florida and the Caribbean. Playing about 6,500 yards in length from the tournament tees, Sombrero can provide a real challenge to the touring pro, while providing enjoyable play from the other tees for everyone from the good amateur player to the casual player.

There is a Men's Golf Association and a Ladies' Golf Association and more than 100 member tournaments during the season, ranging from the major Member-Guests and Invitationals to weekly and monthly informal Couples tournaments and social hours.

Tennis professionals are responsible for the thriving, continuous tennis program at Sombrero's first-rate, lighted soft-court facilities, which include a fully stocked Pro Shop and a permanent spectator and tournament venue. With activities ranging from member practice and teaching to regular member tournaments, to Pro-Ams and open tournaments bringing some world-ranked players to the Club every year, the tennis program is an important dimension of Sombrero Country Club living.
